So "Tomorrow" on Friday turned into Tuesday night. Sorry about the lack of warning, but the sysadmin for the server couldn't do the upgrade on saturday, so it got moved, and I forgot to update this post. Anyways, slick is back and I'm working on bringing the other sites online now.

The sysadmin of Gopherbork is planning on installing Gentoo Linux on our server tomorrow (we're currently running Debian). The site will be down from about 10am PST till the upgrade is complete, hopefully less than 6 hours. See you all on the other side, from Gentoo!

Ahhh yes, the time of year when snow falls, it gets cold, and for some reason it's the only time of the year when people are nice to each other. 
For some people, they go trying to figure out what to get for people. Others may go just because they hadn't had time off in 5 months. Then there's the group of people that are because they haven't a care in the world.
A good bunch of us are buried in snow, anywhere from 8 to 25 inches. That makes some people because it involves shoveling, you lazy bastards. 
And finally, a bunch of us will go because some poor fools take pity on a bunch of us and give us presents, none of which any of us deserve. 
So have a Merry Christmas from all of us here at Slick, because if you don't some treasure hunter thief may take it upon himself to loot your goodies.

Good News: The Server Transition is complete |

I wanted to let everyone know that the transition from Pair networks to Slicehost has been completed, and the domains redirected. As far as I know there was no downtime. I'm somewhat amazed that it all went so well.
The only thing not yet worked out on the public facing side of the transition is the forum's outgoing mail server, which I still need to setup on this server. Until then, the forum won't be able to send out mail, so please don't forget your passwords!

Good News! The main move of Slick Productions is complete. The forum has been upgraded to the latest version of SMF, and everything lives on our new awesome Slice Host server. Unfortunately, there are a few issues with the transition:
- I waited a bit too long with the domain transfer, and as such, there may be a period of time (the next five days or so) where the domain slickproductions.org is down. Sorry :/
In the meantime, the site will live at http://slick.gopherbork.net - I haven't setup DKK's site or MNRogar's site on the new server yet. That will happen soon.
- The new version of SMF isn't compatible with our old themes, so everyone has been reset to the default (and rather obnoxious) pastel blue theme. As I'm not the one who created the themes, we'll have to wait till Leno or DKK can update them.
- Some of the most recent additions to the site haven't been transferred yet, but I should get that fixed soon.
Thanks to everyone for enduring this rough patch in Slick Productions life. I'm doing my best to get everything working.

Hey Everyone, SP's sysadmin speaking :) Slick Productions will be going down tonight for a few hours while I move the site to a new server and update the DNS. With any luck this will go smoothly and everything will back up and running by midnight, but I can't make any promises. My apologies for any disruptions this causes.

Yes, it's true: Lenophis took it upon himself to fix one of the more annoying aspects of the game, from a text hacking perspective. As anyone who has tried to utilize DTE for text that appears in battle knows, you would normally get a single garbage character, instead of the two expected characters. This is because the battles were still using the Japanese game's DTE table, which was used to print (han)dakuten over top of another character. This patch corrects that, and DTE can now be used anywhere. This should allow for more in-depth text hacks, without needing to repoint strings to any tiny bit of free space in the bank.
You can get the hack here, at Romhacking.net, for the time being. I'm sure Leno will add it to the site once he's back. (More on that here.)

This is an announcement of sorts. Lately, Yahoo mail has been worse and worse in terms of service and in annoyance. I had been using their service for the better part of 10 years, but now I've reached my breaking point. This obviously puts a hamper on submitting stuff to the site, so I've set up an email account to handle that. Due to circumstances mostly out of my control, I had been unable to update the NSFE's sent in over the last couple of weeks. Naturally, they built up, almost to the point where it was insurmountable. However, with sanity returning the NSFEs were taken care of.
All of that babble you just read means that bucky sent in a few NSFEs for fixing, a bunch more new ones. Also, Teppic sent in Robin Hood, Anticipation, and an update to Rollergames which I almost typed as Rollerball 3 times. 
In addition to the NSFEs, two documents were updated, both for FF6. The C3 bank saw massive updates from C3/0406 to C3/F000 (or thereabouts). That range is exclusively for the ending, and much more still needs commenting.

We're back, and we have news! Pandora's Box is now in its third year of development. During the past two years, there have been many features implemented. The list includes restoration of the game's button configuration screen, a music box, Strago learning magic the way he should have, and then some.
We've also dabbled into many engine tweaks, the first and most prominent of them being a complete overhaul of the physical damage formula. This change is part of the massive balance overhaul we are still doing. Other engine tweaks include some additions to the battle and engine cores, as well. To get an idea of those changes, you can view the playlist set up at Youtube.
With a balance overhaul also comes many bug fixes, and in fact many bug fixes. To keep some sanity, a complete list of bug fixes was put together at Mnrogar's Den. These bugs are being fixed to level the playing field on both sides. This will no doubt cause some gripes, but the only thing I can say to that is “if you want to play the broken system, play the broken game.”
But, enough about the past. We're here to stay positive, and talk about the future. And that future is now. So, what's new? To mark the occasion, we are proud to show another new feature recently implemented, a Doom Gaze radar (this is 60 megs!). This radar works like how you would expect a radar to work. If you get close to Doom Gaze, he will show up on the minimap. It will make finding him to be much easier than it ever was. Note, a Youtube version of this movie was made, but the quality of it turned out to be bad enough that the minimap was far too grainy to show off what this did. It has since been removed. Various and numerous attempts were also made to get the filesize of this movie down to a respectable level, but all attempts also made the minimap too grainy to show off this new feature.

That won't show you how or when it works, despite anybody's best efforts to do so. Either bite the bullet and download or simply ignore it. And yes, as a dialup user, this is a very hard thing for me to say, but I'm at wit's end about this.
Anyway, another new feature, though not nearly as flashy or even as fancy, is one that will make dialogue nice. For whatever reason, Final Fantasy 6 never had a center tag, it instead used a tab tag. Well, we decided that the tab tag needed to go. In its place, a center tag. Ok, crappy job of building that one up.
Those that have been in RHDN's IRC channel may have noticed me continuously bugging everybody for possible ideas that we could implement into the hack. Gemini did step forward with one, an item that will increase encounter rates. Specifically, this will double the encounter rate. A perfect gift for all of the masochistic grinders out there.
Finally, there's something we've been wanting to show off for a while now. Earlier in development we toyed with changing some of the character spritesheets. One such example was a revision to Mog. We have since expanded on that, giving some alterations to Celes and Edgar.
On a sad note, I am reluctant to announce that I do not believe we'll be able to get anymore new music into the hack. Those that have assisted in the past seemed to have moved on to bigger and better things. To counter this, some have suggested that we learn the inner workings of the SPC700 to get more songs in. However, we feel that delaying the project for another many months to learn the chip just to get a few more songs in is not worth it.
To wrap this up, I'll say that we hope that 2009 will be the final year of development. I won't put a date on when we'll be done, because adding pressure will not ensure quality. We thank those that have been patient with us during this project's development.
